Hossein Salehi

Hossein was born in Tehran, Iran to middle class parents who valued the family bond and education beyond anything else. He came to the United States in 1970 to study Mechanical Engineering at California State University, Fresno. While at Fresno State, he met the mother of his three children and discovered the sport of tennis.

His children are 36 and 34 years old, his younger boys are identical twins. Following his parents' example, Hossein fostered the value of education in his boys. As a result, they all went on to earn degrees from four-year universities. His identical twin sons went on to earn their graduate degrees and have been teaching and working as administrators in the secondary field of education for the past ten years.

Hosein graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1975. He spent 28 years working as an Engineer and Director of Research and Development with R & G Sloan and the Templock Corporation. Most of his professional work dealt with plastics processing and product/tool design.

Hossein has continually played tennis for leisure and in the competition arena, in Bakersfield and Ventura, since 1970. He advanced his knowledge and skills of tennis working with high-performance coaches. While competing, he participated in USTA team tennis and was very happy with his accomplishments. He enjoys tennis because it is one of the few sports that can be enjoyed by players of all ages, because it allowed him to form life-long friendships, and because it has ensured his health and fitness.

Hossein started teaching tennis 13 years ago for the City of Ventura. He currently teaches tennis in Camino Real Park in the city of Ventura, instructing 4-7 year olds in a quick start tennis class using specialized tennis equipment, 8-12 year olds in beginner and intermediate classes, 13-17 year olds in beginner through advanced classes to prepare them to be competitive in high school team tennis, and adults in beginner, intermediate, and private classes. Most of his students, both children and adults, have successfully gone on to play USTA team tennis and tennis tournaments.

Hossein prides himself in being a life-long learner. He is self-educated on current and effective techniques to successfully teach tennis. He has pursued an MTM certification to ensure that all his students maximize their potential in tennis, whether for recreational or competitive application.
